The premiere performing ensemble of the Barrington Music Institute is the Barrington Youth Symphony Orchestra. This auditioned group features string, wind, and percussion students who are ready for the challenge of playing advanced symphony literature. This orchestra rehearses once a week and performs two formal concerts at Barrington High School each year. They also perform in the community and on tour. Recent tours include Portugal/Spain 2022, Italy, 2019, Ireland 2017, and Israel 2015.
THE YOUTH SYMPHONY INCLUDES WINDS AND PERCUSSION If you play flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba, or concert percussion, and have at least 3 years experience, you are eligible to audition.

This intermediate ensemble is for students who are ready to play in an orchestra that will appropriately challenge them and help them grow in a fun and social setting. Students in the concert orchestra will also combine with the youth symphony for certain selections. Students with a minimum of 2 years experience on their instrument are eligible to audition. Wind and Percussion students are also encouraged to audition in addition to string players.

Students are selected by the institute director to participate in chamber ensembles. Ensembles are arranged by ability and instrumentation represents one student on each part. Students rehearse weekly and prepare music for community performances.
